LANABAL® contains Mecobalamin. Mecobalamin is a vitamin B12 homologue in the body with respect to nucleic acid, protein and lipid metabolism. It participates in transmethylation reactions. Mecobalamin promotes methylation role in t-RNA chain with respect to protein synthesis and methionine convertion from homocystein.
LANABAL® Injection
• Per 1 mL: Mecobalamin 500 mcg.
• Ampoules (10’s).
LANABAL® Capsule
• Mecobalamin 500 mcg.
• Capsule (10x10’s).
LANABAL® is indicated for Peripheral neuropaties.
DOSAGE
- LANABAL® Capsule : 1 capsule 3 times daily
- LANABAL® Injection : 500 mcg, 3 times a week, administered i.m. or i.v.
LANABAL® is Contraindicated for Patient with hypersensitivity to this drug.
SIDE EFFECTS
• Gastrointestinal symptoms e.g. nausea, anorexia, diarrhea and , skin rash, headache.
• Pain and induration may infrequently occur at the site of i.m. injection.
• Precautions and Warnings :
• Discontinue medication with Mecobalamin if there is no response after several months.
• LANABAL® must be used promptly after the package (alluminium foil) is opened.
• Prolonged use of larger doses of Mecobalamin is not recommended to patients whose occupation requires handling of mercury or its compounds.
• Mecobalamin should be given with caution in patients with cardiovascular, respiratory disease and hypertension.
• The capsule should be stored in airtight containers and should be protected from moisture and light.
• LANABAL® injection is susceptible to photolysis. It must be used promptly after the package is opened and care must be taken not to expose the ampoule to direct light.
• In i.m. administration, care should be excercised, suggested as follows, to avoid adverse effects on tissues or nerves :
-
- repeated injection at the same site should be avoided. Particular care should be exercise when administering Mecobalamin to neonates, premature infants, infants and children.
- the course of nerves should be avoided for the site of injection.
- if the patient complains of pain or if blood reflux occurs when the syringe needle is stuck, withdraw it immediately and try at a different site.
